An overview of the region
Pirna borders directly on Dresden, the state capital of Saxony, lying in the centre of the most important business region of the Eastern German states. Approximately 1.2 million residents live and work here. Some of the strengths of this region include internationally important sectors such as microelectronics, electrical engineering/precision engineering, biotechnology, export-oriented mechanical engineering industries, a broad range of small to medium-sized enterprises, well respected universities and research institutions as well as a first class infrastructure.
However, the region of Dresden is also a great place to live; it is an economic region with flair located in a unique natural and cultural environment. Pirna with its charming old town centre is the gate to the “Sächsische Schweiz” National Park and located close to the Erz Mountains complements the artistic and cultural activities of Saxony’s capital.
